Flavored Coffee or Black? That is the Question
If a purist asks whether you want your coffee black, the answer will often be an inadvertent yes, then grimace inwardly. Of course black coffee is wonderful. Drink it like a man, yes?
No. There are several wonderful types, blends and mixes that could be enjoyed like a man, as a coffee is supposed to be enjoyed. This is precisely why over the ages coffee lovers all over the world have kept experimenting and coming out with different coffee flavors and types. The good thing is, it has not yet been crafted. You, like the rest of us still have the chance to stand up and keep your head high with whatever preferred coffee you choose. For all the hoopla and the claim being “the best coffee in the world” by many manufacturers and growers, coffee really is a personal thing. There is absolutely no truth in the mine is better than yours nonsense. There is however, truth in the saying that “the proof of the brewing is in the drinking”, or something similar to that.
Oh yes, life’s like that. More exciting with a little more flavor. You take whatever coffee settles best and be proud with the choice, flavored coffee or black.
Flavored coffee drinkers must stand up and unite. When caught red handed buying it, do not make the flimsy alibi that it was meant for your mother, come on. Drink it and be done away with it. After all, it is your taste buds you want pleased, not someone else’s.
Drinking flavored coffee may be as old as Hamurrabi. Why, even the Turks of old, famous for having no sugar mixes the coffee in their ibrik with cinnamon, cardamom, clove (of all things), sometimes as weird as a pepper flavored coffee. In other places there is also a coconut flavored coffee. There are even rumors of adding garlic. Yuck, the length that one has to go in order to have a flavored coffee. The purist, bless his good soul will grimace at that, but then you’re even.
Today, thank your angels we have better ways of enjoying a good cup of flavored coffee.

Flavored coffee beans are separated into the following categories.
· Chocolate-based flavored coffee beans like the chocolate mint
· Fruit based Flavored coffee like the raspberry and yes, the coconut
· Spice-based flavored coffee, like the cinnamon
· Vanilla based flavored coffee, includes the nut-based flavors like the hazelnut and macadamia nut flavored coffee.
While the lists are the basic groupings, roasters are also experimenting with mixing the groups to come out with a good coffee flavor.
As promised, coffee is still undergoing so much development and innovation. No perfect blend has been discovered in spite of claims left and right. We still have a chance to come out with our own original flavored coffee. I think though that I will pass on the garlic.
